Meredith Perreault, Project Manager
M.A., Texas State University - San Marcos

Meredith Perreault is a senior scientist/project manager at Onondaga Environmental Institute (OEI).  She received a master’s degree in Geography from Texas State University at San Marcos in 1995, completing a thesis on the potential for stream conservation in rural central Texas, through land use and water quality analysis.  Ms. Perreault worked for the Texas Natural Heritage Program, The Nature Conservancy and the University of Colorado at Boulder, before relocating to Syracuse in 2000.  Shortly after arriving in Syracuse, Ms. Perreault began volunteering with community organizations like the Partnership for Onondaga Creek and Canopy to advocate for a better future for Onondaga Creek.  Prior to joining OEI in 2003, she worked as a lab assistant for SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Department of Environmental and Forest Biology and participated in municipal sewage treatment facility negotiations as a member of the Partnership for Onondaga Creek.  She currently serves as the project facilitator for the Onondaga Creek Revitalization Plan Project (OCRP), sponsored by the Onondaga Lake Partnership with funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  The goal of the OCRP project is to develop a community-based revitalization plan for the Onondaga Creek watershed, providing a guide for the future development, water quality, and habitat improvements that can enhance social, environmental, and economic conditions along Onondaga Creek.  As OEI’s project lead for OCRP, Ms. Perreault organized public meetings that engaged over 350 people from diverse backgrounds for community visioning for creek revitalization.  She established and administered the Onondaga Creek Working Group, a volunteer watershed planning group; facilitated project partner meetings and community communications; and oversaw and contributed to multiple reports associated with the project, including the final product, the Onondaga Creek Conceptual Revitalization Plan.
Ms. Perreault serves as treasurer on the Board of Directors for the local Slow Food USA chapter.  She is a member of the International Association for Public Participation, the International Association for Society and Natural Resources, and the Society for Ecological Restoration International.
